"...one of the best musicals of the century... close to the genius of creation."

~ Brooks Atkinson

The Chemainus Theatre Festival is pleased to present the musical smash hit of the 20th century, My Fair Lady.

The standard by which all others are measured, My Fair Lady has delighted audiences all over the word. Based on George Bernard Shaw's play and Gabrial Pascal's movie Pygmalion, with book, music and lyrics by Lerner and Loewe, My Fair Lady is a winning combination of music, with original choreography, scenery and costume magic!

Film producer Gabrial Pascal adapted George Bernard Shaw's 1914 play Pygmalion into a memorable movie version in 1938. In later years Pascal collaborated with writer Alan Jay Lerner and composer Fritz Loewe, who went on to develop the stage version, of My Fair Lady. It first opened in 1956 on Broadway in New York, and the original stage production featured Rex Harrison as Henry Higgins and then 20- year-old Julie Andrews as Eliza Doolittle. The 1964 film version starred Rex Harrison, Stanley Holloway, and Audrey Hepburn. Today, both the stage and movie versions of My Fair Lady are still immensely popular and loved worldwide.

The story revolves around Eliza Doolittle, a lowly flower peddler in London's Covent Garden Square. She agrees to take speech lessons from phonetician Henry Higgins in order to fulfill her dream of working in a flower shop. Professor Higgins makes a wager that he can pawn her off as a lady in any social setting. Col. Pickering takes on the bet and the fun begins!

Audience members will be elated with some of the world's greatest musical numbers: Wouldn't It Be Loverly?, With a Little Bit of Luck, The Rain in Spain, I Could Have Danced All Night, On the Street Where You Live, Get Me to the Church on Time and I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face.

CTF Artistic Director Jeremy Tow is at the helm of this grand production, with the assistance of Musical Director Heather Burns and Choreographer Todd Talbot. The artistic team also includes the talents of Scenery Designer Sam Whittingham, Costume Designer Maury Drummond, Lighting Designer Shannon Frederickson, and Sound Designer Robin Boxwell, Production Stage Manager Alex Currie, Rehearsal Stage Manger David Baughan, and Assistant Stage Manager Leigh McClymont.

CTF is delighted to present a magnificent cast for this production: Meghan Gardiner as Eliza Doolittle, Paul Terry as Henry Higgins, William Groth as Col. Pickering, Gordon Roberts as Alfred P. Doolittle, and Lindsay Sterk as Freddy, with Norma Bowen, Sarah Donald, Steven Greenfield, Pam Hyatt, Julie McIsaac, R.J. Peters, Sarah May Redmond, and Dirk van Stralen.
