"My work is landscape based, having to do with our connection to the earth. Whether a piece is a floral study, a landscape or an abstract interpretation, the work reflects my contemplation of the gifts from the land."

Trained as both a painter and a printmaker, the process I find most satisfying is the work with monotypes. The particular technique I work with combines both disciplines, using oil paint and brushes to create the image, plus the challenge of working backwards and not quite knowing what will be revealed when the piece is pulled of the working surface. A sense of adventure is necessary!

For the past nine years my work has focused on depictions of buildings from small towns in Alberta and British Columbia. After contemplating a change of subject for some time. I made the leap back to painting landscapes after moving to Duncan in 2007. This series is the result of spending the past six months in my studio, trying some new techniques and re-learning old ones in order to represent the places I have called home. This exhibit features places with which I have an old familiarity with, such as the skies of southern Alberta and places that I am beginning to discover, such as the blues and greens of the Pacific Coast.
