David Baughan
Production Stage Manager
Born in England, David has a background as a theatre stage manager, lighting designer, and photographer. Stage management credits in BC include numerous productions for TheatreOne (Nanaimo), Graffiti Theatre (Salt Spring Island), and Chemainus Theatre Festival (CTF). He is pleased to return for his 12th production at CTF where he will also be the production stage manager for Saint Joan and South Pacific. David's photography has been exhibited in European capitals, the United States, and Canada. His photographs are held in the Musée national d'art moderne collection in Paris.

Norma Bowen
Bloody Mary
Norma is a graduate of Studio 58 and an associate artist of CTF. Before leaving Vancouver she collected two Jessie Award nominations for Fool for Love (Arts Club) and A Lie of the Mind (Vancouver Playhouse). Favourite CTF credits include: Private Lives, Annie, See How They Run, An Ideal Husband, She Stoops to Conquer, A Doll's House, and most recently Hay Fever. South Pacific is her 16th production with CTF. Norma resides in Ladysmith with her husband Mike (CTF's newest Technical Director) and their teenage progeny, Luanna and Cody.

Robin Boxwell
Sound Designer
Robin was pleased to design the sound for Hay Fever this season at CTF as well as Miracle on 34th Street and Murder on the Nile last season. Robin has just finished a sound design for Oh! What A lovely War at Malaspina College Theatre and is looking forward to their production of Macbeth and Viva Musica Society's production of The King And I in the early fall. Robin is always excited to join the Chemainus family and hopes you enjoy the show.

Holly Bright
Choreographer
Holly Bright is a performer and dance educator. She holds a BA in Dance and a BSc in Human Physiology, and is a certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst. Holly is the founder and director of The Crimson Coast Dance Society in Nanaimo, an organization that supports the creation and presentation of professional dance performances and workshops throughout the year. Her musical theatre choreographic background has been with experimental or original works; Euphemia (Akron, Ohio), The Spirit of Bleeker Street (NYC), A Good Person? (Malaspina University Theatre), Hot Flashes (TheatreOne), and Heidi (CTF).

Ian Butcher
Stewpot / Ensemble
Raised in West Vancouver and a graduate of Studio 58, Ian has performed across Canada and overseas, and is excited to be making Saint Joan his island debut at CTF. His overseas credits include A View From The Bridge (Birmingham Rep /W.Y.Playhouse, UK), Tales from Hollywood (The Donmar, London) plus Death of a Salesman (English Theatre, Frankfurt, Germany). Recent other credits include: two seasons at Bard on the Beach playing Oberon in Midsummer Night's Dream and Angelo in Measure for Measure; and Silence for The Shameless Hussies. Film/TV credits include: Stargate SG-1, New World Disorder, and Head Shot.

Dan Costain
Luther Billis / Ensemble
Dan is a native Victorian and a musical theatre veteran. Past CTF credits: Anything Goes, Hello, Dolly!, and Annie. He spent 9 seasons with the Charlottetown Festival: Anne of Green Gables, Johnny Belinda, Guys & Dolls, The Shooting of Dan McGrew, and Puttin' on the Ritz. For over a decade he performed with the Dawson City and Whitehorse Follies & Fort Steele's Wild Horse Theatre. He worked with Victoria's Kaleidoscope Theatre touring as far as Singapore and Brunei. Arts Club Vancouver productions include: Dames at Sea, Singing in the Rain, Evita, and Beauty and the Beast. Recent credits: One More Time (Mary Winspear Theatre) and Urinetown (Belfry Theatre).

Maury Drummond
Costume Designer
Maury is excited to return to CTF to design costumes for South Pacific. She has taught theatre design at the University of Regina before making the West coast her home. Her previous designs at CTF include An Ideal Husband, She Stoops to Conquer, and My Fair Lady. Maury has also designed sets for Colours in the Storm and A Midsummer Night's Dream at UVIC, where she completed her MFA.

Jeff's first appearance at CTF was in Charlie's Aunt in 2002. Other recent credits include: The Canada Show (Monster Theatre/Lunchbox/Kaleidoscope/Just For Laughs), Blankety-Blank: The Unknown Musical (Belfry), Twisted Christmas Carol (Belfry/Arts Club), Joni Mitchell: River (ATP), Lazy Susan (Theatre Melee), Shockers Delight! (gut.see - Jessie nomination), Beggars Would Ride (Wild Excursions/PuSh), Suspended (Boca Del Lupo), The Wars (Theatre Calgary/Vancouver Playhouse). Writer (Out Like Flynn). Musical Director (Volpone), Improvisor and Teacher since 1994, Jeff performs regularly with Vancouver TheatreSports League.

Steven Greenfield
Sailor / Ensemble
Steven is thrilled to be back at CTF where he was seen in My Fair Lady, Munsch Alley, Nightingale, and as 'Laurie' in Little Women: A Holiday Musical. Other favourite credits include: 'Buddy' in Neil Simon's Come Blow Your Horn (Mayfield Theatre); 'Francis' in Forever Plaid (Oh Canada Eh? Productions); Puss in Boots (Alberta Opera); and Seussical (Carousel Theatre). A graduate of Grant MacEwan College's Theatre Arts program, Steven will next be seen in Fighting Chance Productions' Musical of Musicals at the Vancouver Fringe Festival. William Groth
Captain Brackett / Ensemble
William Groth is a 30 year veteran of the stage. He has worked in regional theatres in almost every state in the U.S. and is happy to be back on Vancouver Island. He appeared here at CTF as Doctor Rank in A Doll's House; Colonel Pickering in My Fair Lady; Louie and Eddie in Lost in Yonkers; Lord Hardcastle in She Stoops to Conquer; Harpagon in The Miser; and most recently as David Bliss in Hay Fever. When not busy working in regional theatre, William resides in New York City.

Oscar Hammerstein II
Lyricist (1895-1960)
Oscar Hammerstein worked with many composers but the two most notable collaborations were with Jerome Kern (including Show Boat, Music in the Air, and Very Warm for May) and Richard Rodgers. He teamed up with Rodgers in 1943 after Rodgers's first partner, Lorenz Hart, could no longer deal with his alcoholism. The first result of this collaboration was Oklahoma! Which revolutionized musical theatre with its songs and dances arising out of the plot and characterization. A string of hits followed that included: Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music. The countless productions of his musicals testify to the remarkable quality of his work.

Kaylee Harwood
Nurse/Ensemble
South Pacific marks Kaylee's CTF debut and she is thrilled to work with such exciting and talented artists. Recent credits include Elizabeth Bennett in Pride and Prejudice and Buffoona in Holy Mo and Spew Boy (Trinity Western University), Patty Simcox in Grease (TUTS), and roles in Cinderella, The Mikado, Seussical, the Musical, and Broken Sleep: July 7, 1994. Kaylee studies Theatre at TWU.

Sara-Jeanne Hosie
Nellie Forbush
Born and raised on Vancouver Island, Sara-Jeanne is tickled to be back spending the summer working close to her family. Familiar to CTF audiences from such productions as Annie, Godspell, Memories of a Christmas Ornament, and Little Shop of Horrors. Favourite roles include: Sally Bowles in Cabaret and Woman #1 in Jacques Brel is Alive and Well... (Arts Club); Ernestina in Hello, Dolly! Misha Koslovsky
Scenic Designer
Misha has combined an academic career with a professional one in Scenography. He has designed and taught throughout Western Canada (Banff Centre, Globe Theatre, and University of Regina). Design credits include: Heartbreak House (while on faculty at the University of Lethbridge), Kaleidoscope Theatre, Langham Court, Victoria Fringe, and at the University of Victoria, where he completed his MFA. Recent scenery design: Beauty and the Beast (Victoria Opera Society). Misha is happy to return to CTF (he was the Lighting Designer for Pirates of Penzance).

Colin Legge
Henri / O'Brien / Ensemble
Colin first worked at CTF in The Good Doctor, and he is very happy to be back on beautiful Vancouver Island! Recent theatre credits include: Griffin and Sabine (Arts Club Theatre), The Wild Guys (Bluewater Summer Playhouse), Much Ado About Nothing (Chapterhouse Theatre, UK), Macbeth (Grand Theatre), The Lark (MightyBrave Productions/Toronto Fringe), and Romeo and Juliet (Chapterhouse Theatre, UK). Amber Lewis
Dinah / Ensemble
Amber is elated to make her CTF debut with Saint Joan and South Pacific. When she isn't raising a siege, she enjoys life on Salt Spring Island with her family. Recent roles include Miranda in The Tempest (Grafitti Theatre), Laura Lucretia in The Feigned Courtesans (United Players) and Helena in A Midsummer Night's Dream (Equity Showcase Theatre). Amber is a graduate of the George Brown Theatre School, and apprenticed with the Soulpepper Theatre Company.

Joshua Logan
Book Co-Writer (1908-1988)
Joshua Logan was a theatre and movie director and writer. He served as a public relations and intelligence officer during the Second World War. After the war he directed Broadway productions of Annie Get Your Gun, Mister Roberts, Fanny, and South Pacific for which he was awarded a Tony Award for best director. He co-wrote South Pacific with Oscar Hammerstein and although initially the Pulitzer Prize was awarded to Rogers and Hammerstein this was later corrected to include him. He was also a successful movie director with films such as Picnic, Bus Stop, Paint Your Wagon, Sayonara (also based on a Michener book), and the movie version of South Pacific.

William Mackwood
Lighting Designer
William is thrilled to return to CTF after his enjoyable experience with Lost in Yonkers. A professional member of the Associated Designers of Canada, William is a co-founder of Victoria's Out of the Box Productions, team designing Opera Erotique, The Third Taboo & Prior Engagement. Other lighting/projection design credits include Little Women and Disney's Aladdin Jr. for Kaleidoscope Theatre; Peter Pan, Alice, Court of Miracles and Romantic Heart for Ballet Victoria; and Aventa New Music's North American premiere of Anders Nordentoft's On This Planet. William teaches Lighting Design at UVic, where he obtained his MFA in design.

Brandon Macleod
Jerome
Brandon is a passionate young performer, with numerous acting, voice, dance, and piano performances to his credit. Lead roles include Oliver, in Lionel Bart's Oliver the Musical, and Tiny Tim in Scrooge. Theatrical experience includes CTF, Peninsula Players, Mountain Dream Productions, Four Seasons, and Spilt Milk Improv theatre companies. Brandon has also been performing for a number of years in the Greater Victoria Music Festival winning a vocal award this year. Brandon seems to have found his calling in musical theatre.

Alex McMorran
McCaffrey/Ensemble
A Vancouver boy, Alex is pleased to be making his Vancouver Island debut in CTF's summer repertory season. Favourite recent shows include: Emily (Gateway Theatre), The Dissociates (Sea Theatre), and Alone (reirART). Recent directorial credits include The Elizabeth Project (UBC School of Music), and Fools (UBC Medical School). Last summer Alex worked in a sawmill, so he feels this is a step in the right direction.

James A. Michener
Novelist (1907-1997)
Michener wrote more than 40 books, many of which were sweeping sagas covering generations of characters and set in particular geographic settings. He included accurate historical information and was meticulous in his research. He began writing during the Second World War when he was assigned to the South Pacific as a naval historian. The Pulitzer Prize was awarded to him in 1948 for "Tales of the South Pacific" that came out of his experiences during the war. The musical South Pacific was adapted from this novel. Other major works included "Hawaii", "The Drifters", "The Centennial", "The Source", "Mexico", and "Caribbean".

Steven Edward Moore
Emile de Becque
Steven is making his Canadian debut at CTF. Having appeared in many leading roles in the US and Europe, some favorites include: Randy Curtis in Lady in the Dark at London's Royal National Theatre, the Phantom in a German production of Maury Yeston's Phantom, Lancelot - Camelot, Julian Marsh - 42nd St., Captain von Trapp - The Sound of Music, Joe - The Most Happy Fella, Curly - Oklahoma!, and Rapunzel's Prince - Into the Woods. In NYC Steven has been a featured singer in the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular and is very busy performing classical music with all the major orchestras at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and other concert venues.

Lloyd Nicholson
Music Director
Lloyd previously appeared at CTF as musical director/pianist for I Do! I Do! and is pleased to return in that capacity for one of his favourite shows, South Pacific. Based in Vancouver, Lloyd is the Artistic Director of Royal City Musical Theatre, for whom he most recently directed West Side Story, 42nd Street, Peter Pan, and The Music Man. He also directed 4 seasons at Theatre Under The Stars. He is resident musical director at Sudio 58, Langara College (The Boyfriend, Guys and Dolls, Pal Joey, Hair, Cabaret, She Loves Me), and at the Vancouver Playhouse (Oliver!, A Little Night Music, Hello, Dolly!, A Chorus Line). He spent last summer at the Arts Club Theatre doing Sara-Jeanne Hosie's production of Suds.

Jaclyn Nishi
Liat/Ngana/Ensemble
Jaclyn is extremely excited to be a part of South Pacific. Notable past credits include: Guys and Dolls, Anything Goes (Metro), Can-Can (Tuts), Babes In Arms, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, and Rodgers and Hammerstein's Flower Drum Song (Applause!) in which she played Mei Lee. Jaclyn would like to thank her mom, sister, and especially Dane for their continuing love and support.

Richard Rodgers
Music Composer (1902-1979)
Richard Rodgers composed the music for more than 900 songs and 40 Broadway musicals. He first collaborated with Lorenz Hart and produced such shows as The Girl Friend, A Connecticut Yankee, Babes in Arms and I Married an Angel. Hart died in 1943. Rodgers teamed up with Oscar Hammerstein and the rest, so they say, "is history". They revolutionized the art form - what was once a collection of dance numbers, songs and comic turns held together by a tenuous plot became a fully integrated art form that started with Oklahoma! They quickly followed that with South Pacific, The King and I and The Sound of Music.

Jeffrey Stephen
Cable / Ensemble
Typically seen on stage in Victoria, South Pacific is Jeffrey's first show at CTF. Since being influenced by his mother to pursue theatre, Jeffrey has enjoyed playing many characters including Marius/Curly (Hey, Mister Producer!), Curly (Oklahoma!), Riff (West Side Story), Ricky Martin (Running Wild), Charlie Brown (YAGMCB), Archibald Craven (The Secret Garden), Paco (La Vida Breve), and Bill Sykes (Oliver!). Jeff's performances are dedicated to his parents and his fantastic Fuller Lake family.

David Thomson
Professor / Ensemble
David has appeared in many productions in Vancouver and across western Canada; he's previously been seen at CTF as Dylan in A Christmas in Wales and as Richard Greatham in Hay Fever. Other credits include such plays as Cabaret, Amadeus, Pygmalion, And Then There Were None, Romeo and Juliet, and The Hobbit. He received a Jessie Award nomination for his work in another Sarah Rodgers directed play, Cat and Mouse: Sheep. Thanks as always to family and friends.

Christopher Wood
Jerome
Christopher is a grade eight student at Dover Bay Secondary School in Nanaimo. His favourite subject at school is the Performing Arts Program taught by Hugh Anderson. Christopher also takes acting classes at the Spotlight Academy with Adrian Hough, Jacqui Kaese, and Marina Darling. Christopher's main theatre experience comes from community theatre where he played Erroneous in A Funny Thing Happened on The Way to The Forum and has just completed the show How to Eat Like a Child at the Bay Theatre.
