A Christmas in Wales

A play with music from the Dylan Thomas story
"A Child's Christmas in Wales"

November 16 - December 31, 2006

Christmas show brings record-breaking pre-show sales to Chemainus Theatre Festival 8,000 tickets were already sold - 2 weeks prior to opening. To avoid disappointment - book now!

The Chemainus Theatre Festival is pleased to present an original adaptation A Christmas in Wales, based on the Dylan Thomas story A Child's Christmas in Wales, and a Christmas selection from his "Collected Stories". This delightful production is the creation of Sarah Rodgers and Denis Rodgers - a daughter-and-father team.

It's the Christmas season in Wales, 1924. The lyrical world of Dylan Thomas comes to life through tipsy Aunts, sleeping Uncles, spitting cats, and snowball mischief. T'is the Season for music... and Musical Director Alison Jenkins weaves a wonderful selection of traditional Welsh and English tunes throughout the show. It is a warm wonderland of Welsh carols, splendid words, and good cheer!

Sarah Rodgers is also the director for the premiere production, which opens on November 16 and closes on New Year's Eve - December 31. Ms. Rodgers is an instructor at the University of British Columbia and a Jessie Richardson award-winning director and actor.

Christmas in the Rodgers family always included listening to A Child's Christmas in Wales. "It has been a beautiful process bringing these characters to life and a great delight introducing some other of my childhood memories from his "Collected Stories" into this piece", says Ms. Rodgers. "I am no stranger to the world of Dylan Thomas. My father passed on to me his love for his work." Thomas is ranked as one of the 21st centuries greatest poets.

Guest Director Sarah Rodgers, with the assistance of CTF's Artistic Director Jeremy Tow, has gathered a talented artistic team: Musical Director Alison Jenkins, Scenery & Lighting Designer Kevin McAllister, Costume Designer Norma Bowen, and Stage Manager Alex Currie. Also involved in this production as the Movement Coach is Nanaimo's acclaimed dancer Holly Bright.

The acting ensemble includes: Samantha Currie, Sarah Donald, Mark DuMez, Thomas Jones, Julia Mackey, Jonathan Teaque, and David Thomson.
