A Perfect Wife
adapted by Norma Bowen and Jeremy Tow

February 1 – March 24, 2007

Chemainus Theatre Festival 2007 Season opens with an uproariously funny farce A Perfect Wife by Trevanian, Chekhov & Shaw.

"So here we are: the opening of another exhilarating Season and with a premiere production of A Perfect Wife to kick it off" says artistic director Jeremy Tow. "Bringing a script to life on stage is exciting, challenging, and unique to each story that we tell." "The play that you are about to see is a farcical comedy." Norma Bowen and Tow adapted the play.

The story is a progression of insights into the improbable twists and turns that love takes from one generation of women to the next. We travel from a large manor house in 1865 Russia, to a horse drawn carriage and a steam train in 1899 France. Then, on to a luxury cruise liner on the Red Sea in 1928 that drops us in a village shop on the Wiltshire Downs of England. Our last stop is a large farm in Saskatchewan, circa 1955" says Tow.

The ensemble is a cast of four acclaimed actors that will make this show unforgettable: CTF favourite Norma Bowen, 35 year veteran Bernard Cuffling has worked at every major theatre in Western Canada; Craig March (Mitch in A Streetcar Named Desire), and Anita Wittenberg (Lost in Yonkers & Enchanted April).

With the help of the designers: Jerod Fahlman – scenery, Kendra Cooper - costumes, John Webber - lighting and Ace Martens - sound designer, you will be transported from one time period to another: from a horse drawn carriage on the Paris streets, to the brilliance of a starry night in the Pyrenees…hold on to your seats!

Enjoy...not only the physical comedy and the farce, but also the language: the theatre is our last refuge of smart, witty, and intelligent language based comedies.

The 2007 Season …. what a stunning line up of plays and performers we have to share with you this year. The second show opening in April is Agatha Christie’s mystery Murder on the Nile, and running in repertory with the summer show, unbridled joy of a Cole Porter’s musical Anything Goes. The fall brings a debut of Ibsen to Chemainus in the play that many people consider the most important play of the 19th century, A Doll’s House. With the warmth of the Christmas Season CTF presents the classic, Miracle on 34th Street. Get ready for a fantastic Season!

"We are committed to sharing the most extraordinary of theatre experiences with you," says Tow. "With over 400,000 dollars of upgrades in lighting and sound equipment, a roster of fully professional Equity actors, and an impressive list of the most innovative and creative designers and directors in Canada."
